Only one dispensary exists in the parish. Although Father Rebecca is not directly responsible for the dispensary, he says there is a great need for medicines and supplies. Fifty-one catechists assist Father Rebecca in the preparation of Baptism, Communion and Confirmation. In addition to teaching religion, they are also responsible for the liturgy in his absence. |

WHY WE GO TO HAITI the suffering of those in the sun."We must as a church continue to commit ourselves to solidarity with those who suffer. We must continue to raise our voices in defense of the poor and to work on instilling a sense of responsibility among American Catholics to support the Church in Haiti. As members of the body of Christ, we must acknowledge that "If one member suffers, all the members suffer with it." We have an obligation to care for those who are suffering, who are disenfranchised, who suffer injustice. In going to Haiti, we are sending out a message to our neighbors and the rest of the world that we are concerned about the human dignity of all. By going to Haiti, we carry a message to the people that we are with them each step of the way. We support them. We care about them. By going to Haiti, we learn the depths of despair and frustration, what human misery is all about. We learn what it means in the midst of poverty and oppression to find faith, to have the ability to smile, and to be open in welcoming a stranger. And finally, we go to Haiti because we experience an unbelievable transformation days of unparalleled resurrection. Our lives are enriched in ways we never dreamed.
